Giant red ants look like normal ants, only they are 3' long and weigh 25 lbs. Despite their small size, they have the equivalent of 18 Strength. When a giant red ant bites a foe that is halfling- or gnome-sized, it holds with its bite for continuous damage (hits automatically for 1d4 damage each round), lift its victim off the ground, and begins walking with this "food" back to its lair. Giant red ants are almost always encountered while scavenging miles from their lair, so there is plenty of time to kill the giant red ant before it reaches home, which is the only way to release its hold short of a knock spell or giant strength. Their lair is a hollowed-out hill or mountain containing hundreds or thousands of giant red ants.
